Earlier this month,

Priya Mani

announced she would be a part of a new multilingual film called Cyanide. The film, to be directed by National Award winner Rajesh Touchriver, is being made in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi, and Priya will be a part of the three south versions. In the film, the actress will portray the investigation officer who cracks the case of a

serial killer

. While this will be Priya’s return to Kannada after last year’s Nanna Prakara, what is more interesting is that the subject is based on a real-life story from Karnataka.
Although there is a 2006 Kannada film called Cyanide, which followed the assassins in the 1991 Rajiv Gandhi murder, this one is about the serial killer Mohan Kumar, who was dubbed

Cyanide Mohan

for murdering 20 women with contraceptive pills laced with cyanide.
The women, all unmarried, were found dead in public toilets at bus stands across six towns in southern Karnataka, including eight in Mysuru and five in Bengaluru, dressed in what appeared to be bridal-wear saris.
Kumar, who was apprehended in 2009, has admitted 32 counts of murder of which he was put on trial for 20. While the film team has not revealed who will play Kumar, Yashpal Sharma will step into Priya’s role in the Hindi version.
The actress, we hear, will begin shooting for the film in January 2021.
