Today, the
film industry mourned the loss of one of its finest storytellers,
Basu Chatterjee. His films in Hindi and Bengali have subjects that are simple in narrative styles, but they address complex emotions. He has also been a mentor to many people from the film industry. One such is actress
Priyanka Upendra, who began her career in Bengali films, before she ventured to other film industries and made the
Kannada
film industry her home away from home eventually.
Priyanka penned a special message for her mentor on her social media page, which spoke about how she learnt some of the nuances in acting from him. Her post read:
Dearest Basuda..thank you for being my guide, my friend, one of my first directors..and giving me the golden opportunity to work with you in your first Bengali film “Hathat Brishti” It was my first film as a leading actor and I learnt so much from you! You taught me the art of not just saying my dialogues but reacting to others, living the character ..you taught us the art of natural film making..Thank you for casting me in Chuppi Chuppi
