Eight years after she last starred in a

Bengali film

with

superstar Jeet

, Priyanka Upendra is all set to return to her homeland to feature in her next flick. “And it is special in more ways than one. The wait seems to have been worth it because this project is an adaptation of Satyajit Ray’s one and only non Feluda/non Shonku novel,

Master Anshuman

,” shares Priyanka.
The movie is also titled Master Anshuman, and like all of Satyajit Ray’s works, it is modest and entertaining, observes Priyanka. “The subject deals with wonder, mystery, adventure, thrill and comedy and is a film that’s being shot within a film. I play an actor called Madhabi Sen and a mystery unfolds while we are shooting the film,” she says.
The movie is being directed by Sagnik Chatterjee, who won the national award last year for best debut in a non feature film. “Sagnik da has worked with Sandeep Ray (Satyajit Ray’s son) and this is his mainstream debut film. It’s a rather stellar team as we have Sreeparna Mitra who has jointly written the script with Sagnik da, Lolita Ray, who is Satyajit Ray’s daughter-in-law, is doing the costumes along with Sreeparna and Dharam Gulati is our DOP who has done movies like Rudaali,” avers Priyanka. The team will begin shoot in Darjeeling in the first week of March. “What makes it so close to our hearts is that this is Satyajit Ray’s centenary year and this will be our ode to him,” says Priyanka.
