’. From thereon the actor has made his mark in every audience’s heart irrespective of the language or cultural barriers. Apart from his terrific acting skills, the innocence that his face projected was one of the reasons why most of the audience loved him. Today the actor’s debut film ‘Appu’, which gifted him with the fondly called title ‘Appu’, is clocking 20 years.

Puneeth Rajkumar made his grand entry into the Kannada film industry with the Puri Jagannadh’s directorial film ‘Appu’ which was released in the year 2002. The film was scripted by the writers MS Ramesh, and R Rajashekhar based on the original story written by the director Puri Jagannadh himself.
‘KGF: Chapter 2’: Meet the voice actors of the Malayalam version

From the lull created by the pandemic, the theatre distribution industry has taken a fresh start with the arrival of the Yash starrer ‘KGF: Chapter 2’. Recently, Mollywood director Shankar Ramakrishnan who supervised the Malayalam dubbing of ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ shared an Instagram note saying that ‘KGF 2 Malayalam version is actually a homage to the Kannada film industry. The director also introduced the voice actors who spent day and night dubbing the Malayalam version. As the Yash starrer is breaking and creating new records at the box office, let's check out the voice cast for the Malayalam version of the film.

It's always a challenge for those notable actors to voice a completely different character as their voice is already familiar to the audience. This is where the Mollywood actress Lena proved that she is a master in dubbing. Her voice was so impactful that it gave complete justice to the powerful character Ramika Sen played by the actress Raveena Tandon in the film.

The lead character Rocky Bhai in ‘KGF’ played by Yash was voiced in the Malayalam version by the dubbing artist Arun CM. Hailing from Ezhikkara in North Paravur, Ernakulam, Arun CM has dubbed for several other films such as ‘Baahubali’, ‘Madambi’, ‘Aswaroodan’, ‘KGF: Chapter 1’, and the recently released SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ where he voiced the character Bheem.

Actress Mala Parvathy’s stellar voice gave life to the character Deepa Hegde in the Malayalam version of ‘KGF: Chapter 2’. Mala Parvathy also played a prominent role in the recently released Amal Neerad - Mammootty starrer ‘Bheeshma Parvam’.

Actor Manoj Kumar who has played prominent roles in both Malayalam TV serials and movies voiced the antagonist character Adheera who was played by the Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt. The voice acting for Adheera by Manoj Kumar was so convincing that it gave a bizarre and terrifying feel to the character.

Shanu Suresh who voiced the character Reena Desai played by Srinidhi Shetty in the Yash starrer film has so many designations to hold. From being a Television presenter to a social media influencer, Shanu Suresh also became the first Keralite to win the ‘Ms. South India’ crown in the year 2005, when she was just 15 years old.

Kaasim Bhai, Rocky’s confidant is one of the memorable characters in ‘KGF’. The character was played by the actor Harish Rai and in the Malayalam version, the popular actor Sudheer Karamana gave voice to the character.

Rocky’s mother character is literally the emotional base of the film ‘KGF’ and the voice-over artist Neethu Subramanyam voiced the character in the Malayalam version without losing the emotional core of the character. Apart from being a voice-over artist, Neethu is also a Carnatic dancer and a singer.

Guru Pandian is yet another pivotal character in the Yash starrer played by the Kannada actor Achyuth Kumar. In the Malayalam version, the character was voiced by the actor Kottayam Ramesh who has played major roles in the Malayalam films such as ‘Aaraattu’, and ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’

The character Vanaram who was one of the hated characters in the first part of KGF, immediately turned out to be the most loved character in the sequel. The character who was played by the Kannada actor Ayyappa P Sharma was voiced in the Malayalam version by the dubbing artist Adarsh.

‘Appu’ told the story of the titular character played by Puneeth Rajkumar, who hails from a middle-class family and gets involved in a college fight leaving him in critical condition. Actress Rakshita played a pivotal female lead character in the film named Suchitra. The film also had the actors Honnavalli Krishna, Avinash,

Honnavalli Srikanth

, and Ganesh Varsha in important roles.

Puneeth Rajkumar's debut film was a humongous hit and had a 200-day run in the theatres. The film was also remade in both

Tamil

and Telugu by the names ‘Dum’, and ‘Idiot’ respectively.

With the film ‘Appu’, marking 20 years since its initial release today, Puneeth Rajkumar’s legacy lives in the minds of every cinephile, and for a span of two decades the actor has left no stone unturned in making his characters perfect which was even evident his posthumous film ‘James’.
