Emotions rode incredibly high on the streets of Bengaluru as the city bid adieu to one of its most beloved superstars and icons, Puneeth Rajkumar. The tragic demise of the actor on the 29th of October has cast a dark shadow of sorrow and grief over the entire state, and beyond, as many still try to make sense of what has transpired over the past two days.

Puneeth Rajkumar's final rites were performed this morning, on the 31st of October, in the presence of close family members, friends, and political leaders with full state honors. Also present was

C.M. Basavaraj Bommai

who was visibly shaken and distraught since he shared a personal bond with the late actor (ANI).


"ಮತ್ತೆ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ ಬನ್ನಿ ಅಪ್ಪು...." wrote C.M. Bommai in a personal tweet as he bid an emotional goodbye to Puneeth Rajkumar ahead of the final rites at

Kanteerava Studio

. He would also participate in performing the final rites which were carried out as per the traditions of the Ediga community of the Hindu religion. The state ensured that the superstar was sent off with full state honors and the national flag was later handed over to Puneeth Rajkumar's wife, Ashwini along with their two daughters. Puneeth was laid to rest next to his mother, Parvathamma Rajkumar who passed away in May of 2017.

The procession from the Kantheerava Stadium, where the mortal remains of Puneeth Rajkumar were kept for the past 30 odd hours, began at 6 a.m. on Sunday through the packed lanes of Bengaluru. Fans flocked the streets to catch the procession, bid goodbye and were even spotted atop building, trees near the Kanteerava Studio to catch one final glimpse of their most beloved star. Many were seen outside the studio in hopes of being closer to him.

' star Yash, actors Tara, Shruti, Raghu Mukherjee, film producer Rockline Venkatesh, and a few others from the film fraternity. Minister of Revenue, R. Ashoka, former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa along with Siddaramaiah, KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar too were found in attendance along with a few other dignitaries.
