Actors Samarjit Lankesh and Saanya Iyer are Gen-Z alright, but they tell us they are just old souls stuck in Gen-Z bodies and old-school love is the way to go for a happy life. “I believe that your soulmate is out there and one day, destiny will make you meet. I believe in old-school dating,” Saanya confesses.
Samarjit agrees, adding, “We do so many stressful things and love should not be one of those things. With love, Gen-Z is, of course, fast-paced, but I am all for old-school, slow love.” In a chat with us, they speak about their understanding of love, dating, and more. Excerpts:
Not a fan of dating apps, Samarjith says love can be found anywhere if one puts in enough effort. “I don’t even know the dating jargon of this generation. Love, to me, is all about having good company, someone who you can laugh with, who keeps you sane,” he says. Saanya, too, is critical of hookup culture. “However, not labelling a relationship is a huge red flag! If I am dating, I want to know where it is going,” she says. She adds that seeking validation from outside is another problem her generation is facing when it comes to dating. “I have seen a lot of people who try to fill the void in their lives through others. They try to project their insecurities on others and expect another person to lift them up. That is not ok,” she says.
