This will be my 50th year of celebrating Ganesha habba. I was five when my brother Sudhindra and I took a miniature Ganesha idol and seated him on a small brick outside our home, and decorated him with flowers,” recalls actor-director Upendra, as he and his wife, actress Priyanka, decorate their Ganesha idol in their new home in Bengaluru. “This year, the festival is extra special for us,” says Upendra who also turns a year older today.
Upendra gets nostalgic as he talks about his memories of the festivities at home. “Back then, we may not have celebrated the festival on a grand note, but in that tiny home that barely fit the four of us, Ganesha Chaturthi was a time that saw the space come alive,” he says.
Meanwhile, his wife and actor Priyanka Upendra says, “I’ve been celebrating with the family for over two decades and I cherish it. Gana homa is a must. After puja, we all cook together and later enjoy a hearty meal on the traditional banana leaf.”
