Veteran Kannada film and theatre personality Sadananda Suvarna passed away on Tuesday, July 16 at the age of 92, due to age-related ailments. Suvarna, born on December 31, 1931, in Mulki near Mangaluru, had a life filled with remarkable achievements and contributions to Indian cinema and theatre.

Suvarna's journey began when he migrated to Mumbai at a young age. Balancing his education at a night school with a job at a private company, he laid the foundation for a career. His collaboration with Girish Kasaravalli, one of Kannada cinema’s most celebrated directors, started with producing the critically acclaimed film 'Ghatashradha.'

In 1991, Suvarna gained widespread recognition for his 13-part television series 'Guddada Bhoota,' which he both produced and directed for Doordarshan. This series was a significant milestone in his career and provided a big break for veteran actor Prakash Raj, who starred in the lead role.

Suvarna also served as the executive producer for several projects, including 'Mane,' 'Kubi Mathu Iyala,' and 'Tabarana Kathe,' all of which are regarded as cinematic masterpieces.

He also directed a well-received documentary titled 'Huchchu Manassina Hatthu Mukagalu,' focusing on Jnanpith awardee Dr. K. Shivarama Karanth, which garnered widespread acclaim. He also directed the popular play 'Court Marshal' and was honored with the BV Karanth Award for his contributions to theatre.
