Most promising young directors in Kannada industry to look forward to

Kannada film industry is one of the fastest growing industries in India. Consistently, the Kannada film industry is producing movies in different genres. Some movies are masala entertainers and some are content driven subjects. There are many great legends like actors Rajkumar, Shakarnag, Vishnu Vardhan and directors like Puttanna Kanagal who helped in building the Kannada industry. 'Ondu Muttina Kathe' was one of the first Kannada movies shot underwater directed by Shankar Nag and Rajkumar played a major role. Directors like Puttanna Kanagal, Girsh Kasaralvali, and others had shaped the Kannada industry by producing great movies. The young filmmakers are now producing movies with fresh subjects, that are gaining the attention of the audience from different destinations. Here is a list of directors who are bringing about a revolution of sorts in the Kannada film industry.

Pavan Kumar

Pavan Kumar produced the movie ‘Lucia’ for Sandalwood audience with crowdfunding and it is the first ever crowdfunded movie in Kannada film industry. The movie was hailed by the audience for its new subject, script and for the good execution. He made his directional debut with the commercial movie ‘Lifu Ishtene’ in 2012. In 2016 Pavan Kumar produced a movie called ‘U-turn’, the movie talked about the safety rules on roads. He attempts to explore more than mainstream movies.

Pavan Kumar began his career by producing theatre plays. He was a well-known writer for the films 'Manasaare' and 'Pancharangi' and he acted in many movies like 'Lifeu Ishtene', 'Gultoo' and other movies.

Rakshith Shetty

Rakshith Shetty is slowly establishing his position both as an actor and director. His directional debut 'Ulidavaru Kandhante' won him awards like Kannada State Film award and the Filmfare award.

He came into the film industry to become an actor but also took up direction and produced films like 'Ulidavaru Kandhante', 'Kirik Party', 'Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu' among others.

Anup Bhandari

Anup Bhandari's debut movie ‘Rangi Taranga’ was a commercial and widely praised movie. This film, that ran for more than 365 days, had elements like murder, spirits, and sacrifice. Anup is a multi-talented person who is a writer, lyricist, and music composer. He also produced the movie 'Rajaratha' which is a romantic comedy in both Kannada and Telugu film industry.

Raam Reddy

Raam Reddy's debut, 'Thithi', has won many awards from all over the world. It is a comedy film, which featured non-professional actors. This movie won awards like the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada, Golden Leopard at the 68th Locarno International Film Festival.

Raam Reddy is an economics graduate, who was never interested in the film industry and never watched any kind of Kannada or Hindi movies in his young age. And now Raam Reddy has given a great movie ‘Thithi’ which has gained many followers.

Hemanth M Rao

His directional debut movie, ‘Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu’, was with the famous actor Ananth Nag. His upcoming movie is an investigative genius directed and written by Hemanth with stars like Ananth Nag, Achyuth Kumar, and others. Hemanth Kumar is an engineer who is a film freak and came into Kannada film industry.
