We’ll keep on playing, staying true to our roots: Parvaaz
Whether tearing up the stage or recording in the studio, rock band Parvaaz says they’re a band that will always stay true to their roots. Through hit albums, tours and fame, the band says they’ll always remember how they started over a decade ago in 2010. “You can explore and evolve, but like a tree, your roots have to remain intact,” shares vocalist Khalid Bhat and Sachin Banandur, drummer and backing vocalist, in a chat with us. Excerpts:
‘It’s easy for our fans to reach out to us’ We’re the most accessible band in India. It’s not hard for our fans to reach out to us. Even at our gigs, they can just come by and say hi to us. In the era of social media, all they have to do is drop us a message on our Instagram and we will respond, as long as the questions are about our work and not
anything personal.
‘Disagreements happen; we use it to our advantage’ As a band, it is a given that you will have disagreements. And it’s a good thing, because disagreements happen because everyone wants what’s best for the band. So, you try and take as much of the feedback and use it.
‘We have a die-hard fan who is there at all our shows’There is a fan that has been following us for years, paying for his tickets and all, out of his own pocket and filming us. Our manager spotted him first, and since then, we’ve asked him to accompany us when we tour.
‘India is now a dream destination for global artistes’
When we began, our biggest challenge used to be getting the tech at the venue sorted. We’ve had to play on equipment that hadn’t been maintained. But now, the whole industry is professional and there has been improvement. How many music fests happened back then? But now, since the pandemic, international artistes are coming here and there are festival dates conflicting with each other.
‘We will adapt to AI, too’
Back when TV came up, everyone said it was going to take over from the radio, but we are at a place where we use both. And the same thing will happen with AI; we can’t stay constant. But, as for AI taking over the music industry – well, a band is where a bunch of people play together, AI can’t take that away.

Our last tour was special because we got our fans to select the songs they wanted us to play. Based on that, we curated a set list!
