Within

is yet another

short film

made by homebound artistes during the Covid-19 lockdown. A psychological drama, the 3-minute-40-sceond film is based on the life of a girl who is suffering from dissociative identity disorder.
Featuring Amrita (as Deepika), Bengaluru-based theatre actor Aniruddh Roy (as psychiatrist Dr Matthew) and child artiste

Kheyati Kauntia

(as young Deepika), the narrative follows the life of Deepika, who is a victim of

childhood trauma

. The film captures the psychological after-effects of mental and physical

abuse

that many are subjected to, but choose to stay quiet about it.

presentation, Within has been shot remotely during the lockdown, keeping in mind social-distancing and other pandemic-related guidelines. All the three actors are located in three different cities. The short has currently been acknowledged as an official selection at a number of national and international film festivals, including 2nd KFTI International Film Festival 2020 in Mumbai, Roshani International Film Festival 2020 in Aurangabad, Social Distance Film Festival 2020 in Toronto and Andromeda Film Festival 2020 in Turkey.
According to the director, there are many stories from our day-day-day lives that mostly remain untold or unheard of, because we shy away from sharing these experiences, as they are still considered a taboo in society. “With this film, we are making an attempt to open up a little about such stories of abuse, trauma and therapy in India,” she adds. The production house is releasing two more lockdown films shortly, both based on social taboos in our country.
