Theatre personality Salim Arif to conduct diction workshop
Bengaluru-based theatre group Kahe Vidushak Foundation is collaborating with stalwart Salim Arif to present
Nukhta Cheen
– a workshop on the nuances of Urdu. It will include Urdu diction, speech clarity as well as poetry and prose recitation. Starting on July 1, the workshop will comprise 12 sessions (three sessions every week).
There will also be a special session by Lubna Salim on Urdu as an asset to actors.

In a statement, the theatre group said, “We bring a rare opportunity to actors, poets, storytellers and performers by collaborating with maestro Salim Arif through a workshop on the nuances of Urdu.”
At the end of the workshop, the participants will receive a certificate from undersigned by Salim as well as a recommendation letter. There are limited seats for the sessions, and there will be a screening process for the same.
It goes without saying that in performing arts, the quality of performance, in terms of linguistic expertise, has taken a hit over the years, partly because other factors have started taking precedence and also due to a lack of proper guidance for artistes to improve their skills.
One may or may not have command over diction. While for many, it’s an inherent talent, others acquire and hone the skill along the way. It’s an art that can be learnt. Urdu is a beautiful language that is often said to mark the courteous from the unlearned and the noble from the ordinary.
