Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Lokah: Chapter 1-Chandra’ becomes 5th highest grossing Malayalam film in India

Dulquer Salmaan has proven his credibility as an actor at the box office and now with his eclectic choices he’s proving his mantle as a producer as well. In the list of his productions his latest film Lokah: Chapter 1-Chandra has turned out to be the crown jewel for his company. The film led by Kalyani Priyadarshan, Naslen, and Tovino Thomas and directed by Domnic Arun, has collected a staggering Rs 88.25 crore nett in India in just 12 days.

The film with its steady run at the box office has already beaten the records of Malayalam cinema legends like Prithviraj’s The Goat Life (Rs 85.26 crore) and Fahadh Faasil’s Aavesham (Rs 85.16 crore).And with its 12th day collection the film has become the 5th highest grossing Malayalam film. The film was released in Malayalam and as the days passed and it’s word of mouth grew, it was released in other languages. If one looks at the breakdown till now, the Malayalam version has contributed Rs 67.95 crore to the total tally, with Telugu version contributing Rs 11.05, Tamil Rs 7.8 crore and Hindi at Rs 1.45 crore.


With it’s 12 day collection the film stands tall amongst some of the biggest hits of Malayalam cinema like Manjummel Boys which minted Rs 142.08 crore in India to Mohanlal’s Thudarum and L: Empuraan which collected Rs 122 crore and Rs 106.77 crore respectively to Tovino Thomas’s 2018 which collected Rs 92.85 crore

Lokah is the part of the 5 part series actor-producer Dulquer Salmaan has put together to form the first ‘Universe’ of Malayalam Cinema. With the way trends are showing for the film, it would be crossing the Rs 100 crore mark probably over the weekend and fly the flag of Malayalam cinema high as one of the most exciting cinema industries in the country.
