Mohanlal has once again proven why he’s the superstar of Malayalam cinema. His latest film Thudarum has stormed the box office, becoming the eighth biggest hit in the history of Malayalam cinema. With a total collection of Rs 75.65 crore in just 11 days as per Sacnilk, the film has surpassed the lifetime earnings of this year’s blockbuster Premalu, which had ended its theatrical run at Rs 76.35 crore.
Directed by Tharun Moorthy, Thudarum opened with a strong Rs 5.25 crore on its first Friday. The film saw a remarkable 63.81% jump on Saturday, collecting Rs 8.6 crore, and continued its upward trend on Sunday with Rs 10.5 crore. By the end of its first week, Thudarum had earned a solid Rs 51.4 crore, placing it among the top-grossing opening weeks in Malayalam film history.
What makes Thudarum’s performance particularly impressive is its consistency. Over 11 days, the film has managed to average around Rs 5 crore in daily collections — a rare feat for a regional film. Even on weekdays, when collections typically dip, Thudarum held steady, with Day 4 (Monday) bringing in Rs 7.15 crore and Day 5 (Tuesday) Rs 6.5 crore. The film picked up again towards the end of its first week, with Day 7 collections rising to Rs 7 crore.
In its second weekend, Thudarum continued its strong run, earning Rs 5.4 crore on Friday, Rs 6.2 crore on Saturday, and Rs 7.5 crore on Sunday. The early estimates for its 11th day (second Monday) stand at Rs 5.15 crore, taking its total to Rs 75.65 crore.
With this, Thudarum has officially overtaken Premalu’s Rs 76.35 crore collection, securing its place as the eighth highest-grossing Malayalam film ever. Premalu was backed by actor Fahadh Faasil and featured names like Naslen, Mamitha Baiju and Sangeeth Prathap.
Thudarum’s gripping storyline, Mohanlal’s stellar performance, and strong word-of-mouth have contributed to its success. If this momentum continues, Thudarum could challenge for higher spots in the all-time list in the days to come. Even in North America the film has managed to earn over Rs 11.50 crore in its 11 day run. On the other hand, Mohanlal will be next seen in Sathyan Anthikkad's directorial 'Hridayapoorvam'.
