Sooraj Tom’s Vishesham, the story of a regular couple’s struggle to conceive, is a “sweet, relatable film for all audiences”, says its director. With Chinnu Chandni and writercomposer Madhusoodanan Anand in the lead roles, the film, which is currently in theatres, tackles relationships and IVF treatment-related issues in a light, but open manner.
Sooraj says, “We have been able to speak about fertility treatments in a bold narrative, and the lead pair were able to convey the emotional story in a relatable manner, without making it obscene in any way. Also, the fresh pairing of Chinnu and Anand lent uniqueness to the story, while also making audiences think of them as the couple next door. Because they are not familiar faces, their characters were able to continually keep up the curiosity in the story. When the songs were released, we had already received a lot of positive feedback about the casting and the chemistry between them.”
Speaking about the space for smaller films, the director says, “At a time when Malayalam cinema is making big-scale movies, content driven, feel-good films also have an important space. This is why the industry is able to make significant strides. These are the films that I am interested in making, as well. The feedback we have received is that this film has managed to make an emotional connect with people.”
