‘Aavesham’ dethrones ‘Varshangalkku Shesham’, final box office collections out

Contrary to earlier claims, Dhyan Sreenivasan’s film 'Varshangalkku Shesham' is not the top Vishu release of 2024. The final box office collections reveal that Aavesham, starring Fahadh Faasil, is the real winner.

'Varshangalkku Shesham', a period musical drama directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, hit theaters in April 2024 as a Vishu special release. The film, featuring Pranav Mohanlal and Dhyan Sreenivasan in lead roles, along with a cameo by Nivin Pauly, had a successful theatrical run, earning it super hit status.

According to OTT play, 'Varshangalkku Shesham' collected approximately Rs. 83 crore worldwide. The breakdown includes over Rs. 38.70 crore from the Kerala box office, Rs. 7.70 crore from the rest of India, and Rs. 36.5 crore from overseas markets.

Despite these impressive numbers, 'Varshangalkku Shesham' was outperformed by 'Aavesham', an action-comedy film directed by Jithu Madhavan and starring Fahadh Faasil. Released on the same day, 'Aavesham' exceeded expectations by grossing over Rs. 155 crore worldwide during its theatrical run, making it the fourth blockbuster of 2024. This unexpected success dethroned 'Varshangalkku Shesham' from the top spot, highlighting 'Aavesham' as the true Vishu winner.

Trade experts and industry members had initially predicted 'Varshangalkku Shesham' to dominate the Vishu box office. However, Aavesham’s strong performance and widespread audience appeal led to its remarkable box office success.
