At a time when Malayalam soaps are being increasingly criticised, the comedy serial Akkarakazhchakal managed to effortlessly win hearts, regardless of age, gender and even region. Now, Abi Varghese, who directed the much loved Malayalam serial about the life of Malayalis in the US, is all set to step into Mollywood with a Fahadh Faasil project. Abi says, “It is going to be a comedy drama and Fahadh will be playing an NRI in it.
We will be shooting it in the US. I am also planning to cast someone from Bollywood in this film.” The debutant will also be co-scripting the film. Jacob Gregory, who became a popular face in Mollywood through films like
ABCD, 1983 and Salala Mobiles debuted through Akkarakazchakal and so did Josekutty Valiyakallumkal, who played prominent roles in
Koothara, English and Buddy. Sajini Sachariah, who played Dulquer’s mother in
ABCD, was the female lead of the show.
Will anyone from Akkarakazhchakal be part of the project? “Yes I am planning to include an actor or two from the serial in the film too.” The serial came to a halt at a time when it was a reigning hit among Malayalis. “I did not want to compromise on its quality or stretch it too much and bore the audience. That is why we wrapped it up at that point,” Abi explains.
