AMMA's longtime general secretary, Idavela Babu, is set to step down; Mohanlal considers exit; reports

Idavela Babu, the longstanding figure at the helm of the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA), is reported to step down from his position, marking the end of an era in the organization's leadership. With an illustrious tenure spanning various roles within AMMA, including his current role as General Secretary, Idavela Babu has decided that the time is ripe for new faces to guide the organization forward.

Reports from On Manorama indicate that the forthcoming general body meeting of AMMA, scheduled every three years for the election of new office bearers, will serve as the backdrop for Idavela Babu's departure. Set to convene on June 30 at the Gokulam Convention Centre, the meeting is expected to witness significant transitions within the organization's leadership structure.

In a notable development, actor Mohanlal, who serves as the President of AMMA, is also reportedly thinking about stepping down from his position.

Meanwhile, actor Idavela Babu's journey with AMMA dates back to 1994, when he assumed the role of joint secretary during the election of its third set of office bearers.

Beyond leadership transitions, the upcoming general body meeting is expected to delve into crucial discussions aimed at soaring AMMA's financial standing. With annual expenses nearing three crore rupees, considering welfare initiatives, organizational overheads, and member insurance premiums, sustaining financial equilibrium has emerged as a pressing concern.

Notably, AMMA extends financial support to 112 members facing dire circumstances, showcasing the organization's commitment to its community. Also, the organization takes part in several charity programs for the needy.
