Asif Ali is riding high on the success of his latest film ‘Rekhachithram’, which has emerged as the only profitable Malayalam film in January 2025, even surpassing Mammootty’s ‘Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse’. The Kerala Film Producers Association recently released a report on the box office performances of January releases, confirming that ‘Rekhachithram’ was the only film that managed to turn a profit.
Reacting to the news, Asif Ali expressed his happiness at a public event, stating, "When they say that out of all the films released in January 2025, ‘Rekhachithram’ was the only successful venture, I must admit that it’s a moment I was dreaming of. I am smiling with pride."
The actor also took a moment to acknowledge those who placed their faith in him during a challenging phase in his career. “Even during my low phase, Ramu John and my favorite Jofin (director) believed in me and gave me this project. Thank you so much for trusting me,” he said.
Calling ‘Rekhachithram’ the biggest film of his career, Asif Ali emphasized how its success has given him renewed confidence. “This project is the biggest successful movie I have ever done. It gives me the strength to move forward in my career,” he added.
The actor also extended his gratitude to the entire cast and crew of Rekhachithram, appreciating their contribution to the film’s success. Concluding his speech, an emotional Asif Ali said, “The confidence that Rekhachithram has given me is immense.”
Meanwhile, the Jofin T Chacko’s investigative drama movie will start streaming on OTT from March 7 onwards. ETimes review for ‘Rekhachithram’ reads, “The second half is where the film takes the audience on a nostalgic ride. There is plenty of creative liberty taken by the writer, bringing in Kaathodu Kathoram elements into the film, creating an alternate history in a sense. As much as seeing a young Mammootty on screen is appreciated, a little less fanboyism would have helped to stick to the levity of the plot. The recreation of the sets in the 80s was done well. Interlinking the story with instances from old films has worked, too. At least it didn't feel out of place.”
