Veteran Malayalam actor, writer, and filmmaker Sreenivasan passed away in Kochi at the age of 69 after a long illness. Sreenivasan was under treatment at home before being shifted to the hospital. All of us know him for his sharp writing and memorable roles. But there are several lesser known facts about the veteran.

Early dubbing days before fame

Before becoming a familiar face on screen, Sreenivasan worked as a dubbing artist as reported by Hindu. In his early years, he lent his voice to Mammootty in some of the actor’s initial films, including Mela. He also dubbed for Tamil actor Thyagarajan in 'Oru Muthassi Katha'.

Proper training in cinema

Sreenivasan believed in learning the craft the right way. He studied acting at the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu in Chennai. During his student days, he trained alongside future stars, including Rajinikanth. This strong base helped him grow as an actor, writer, and director.

A strong family bond with cinema

Sreenivasan was married to Vimala who is a retired school teacher. Vineeth Sreenivasan, his elder son, became a successful actor, director, singer, and writer. His younger son, Dhyan Sreenivasan, also made his mark as an actor and filmmaker. Sreenivasan often took pride in seeing them grow in the same field he loved.

Writing was never the plan

Interestingly, screenwriting was not part of Sreenivasan’s original plan. His first script came in 1984 with 'Odaruthammava Aalariyam', directed by Priyadarshan. The director was busy and needed help, and Sreenivasan stepped in. He later joked that he was “thrown into the cauldron of screenwriting,” a moment that changed Malayalam cinema forever.

A writer with a literary heart

Sreenivasan also explored writing beyond films. He published collections of his screenplays. This include 'Padachonte Thirakkathakal' (God’s Screenplays). His works showed his deep thoughts about life, society, and human nature.
