Even though Amal Neerad’s recent film, Bougainvillea, is getting mixed reviews from audiences, the thriller has kicked off to a magnificent start, minting close to the director’s previous film, 'Bheeshma Parvam'.
According to the early estimates by the Sacnilk website, ‘Bougainvillea’ collected Rs 3.25 crores on its opening day, which is close to the opening collections of ‘Bheeshma Parvam’, which stood at Rs 5.90 crores. While ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ had an occupancy percentage of 66.66 on its first day, ‘Bougainvillea’ had an overall occupancy of 43.37% on day 1.
The occupancy percentage for the morning shows of ‘Bougainvillea’ stood at 35.19 percent, afternoon shows at 32.15 percent, evening shows at 44.18 percent, and night shows at 61.97 %.
‘Bougainvillea’ hit the big screens on October 17, Thursday and the movie is receiving mixed reviews from the audiences. Critics hail the slow pace signature storytelling style of Amal Neerad in ‘Bougainvillea’, along with magnificent performances.
ETimes rated ‘Bougainvillea’ 3.5 out of 5 and our review read, “. The audience would have had the effect of a bang that came out of nowhere. But the slow pace made the movements a little predictable, which takes away from the excitement and high the plot takes us to till then. There are some graphic scenes in there, but there was a noteworthy restraint that Amal Neerad has used in his narrative choices here. There was content for blatant brutality, but this restraint makes the film more believable. There were a couple of issues with a few dialogues, a certain disparity, and a lack of coherence about information related to the case. The repeated mentions of 'her condition' and 'she is unwell' kind of act as foreshadowing too, a clever choice again. Jyothirmayi is the ultimate winner in this Amal Neerad thriller."
