Contessa movie review highlights: An attempt to create a gritty crime drama

The film is directed by Sudeep E S

Contessa

reminds one of those 90s gangster movies, with a local mafia at the centre of the tale, furious BGM, a heroine destined to wait forever and hope the hero mends his ways. Sarath Appani plays the protagonist named Chandu and the film, so far follows his journey, as someone who works for Jayan(Sreejith Ravi), a local sand miner. It's just another story of the hunter, hunted and the people in between, trudging so far in predictable lines.

However, Sarath Appani should be credited with some genuine performance. Like an upcoming Tamil hero, he has some swag while he dances wearing the lungi or dhoti, delivering strong lines and giving his enemies some piercing looks. Sreejith also plays his character well, but there ends the scope of any character to emote well in the film.

The intermission point is interesting, Contessa's wheels are in motion but on the whole, the story isn't exciting enough.
