Actress Parvathy had found herself the victim of the collective wrath of Mammooty fans recently, for pointing out the misogny in the actor's film Kasaba. Among the critics are women as well, and one of them had written a scathing post questioning why Parvathy smokes and drinks, and why she did not react to Bollywood actor
Irfan Khan's comment that 'Malayali women are hot in bed'.
All through, Suja had referred to Parvathy as 'Kochamma', while Kasaba's producer Joby George.
A facebook user named Thomas Mathai has now responded to the Suja's post, saying he is horrified to see the kind of justifications the latter has made. Thomas' post goes like this:
Hello Suja,
This post really shook me. Usually, I am just a passive observer, however, this whole Kasaba issue is literally horrifying me that I feel the need to write something here. I am not even offended here but I am horrified. I am repulsed by the ignorance and hypocrisy. How do you even try to justify a misogynistic rant by merely stating that the actress who raised her opinion is someone who enjoys her hookah or maybe she wears short clothes or no clothes at all? This is so wrong and I am shocked to see the applause it has been receiving. I grew up watching such powerful Malayalam movies that celebrated female sexuality and feminism with utmost honesty.
Do you even understand the word "feminism" to talk about it with such conviction? Feminism is equality. So if a man can be shown wearing nothing or probably smoking or drinking or whatever that is just frowned upon because it is just so "provocative", then a woman can also do the same, just the same. Afterall smoking and drinking are not illegal acts. Being good in bed is not illegal either. So what's wrong with being good in bed. Also, if this was a man, Oh my, what a lovely compliment it would have been. Why are you even bringing up an on-screen kiss by this actress as an allegation against her?Because an on-screen kiss is wrong but misogynistic dialogues are right and "dignified" and "befitting our modern educated society".
Thanks to you, I learned much about the status of women in our society. I am horrified. Because my voice along with the voices of thousand women out there has been shut down by these incredible fans of this great Actor. And this is happening in the state with highest literacy rate (including female literacy) in India. Jai Hind!
Parvathy has also responded to Thomas, thanking him for putting it clearly.
