Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Ustad Hotel’ set for theatrical re-release in January 2025

The superhit Malayalam feel-good film ‘Ustad Hotel’, starring Dulquer Salmaan, is all set for a grand re-release on January 3, 2025.


Directed by Anwar Rasheed and screenplay written by Anjali Menon, the film will hit PVR INOX theaters, allowing audiences to relive Faizi’s emotional journey on the big screen.

Originally released in 2012, ‘Ustad Hotel’ became a milestone in Malayalam cinema, praised for its heartfelt storytelling, memorable performances, and evocative music by Gopi Sunder. The movie also gained Dulquer Salmaan a ‘star’ status among the audiences even though his debut film was the action thriller ‘Second Show’.

The film starred Dulquer Salmaan as Faizi, a passionate young chef whose life takes a turn when he reconnects with his roots and learns valuable life lessons from his grandfather, portrayed by the late Thilakan. Nithya Menen also delivered a stellar performance in the lead cast.

Announcing the re-release, PVR Theaters shared on Instagram: “When passion meets tradition, the flavors of success come alive! Relive Faizi’s emotional journey on the big screen once again!”

ETimes rated the film with a solid 3.5 out of 5 and our review read, “There is a certain warmth about Ustad Hotel. In a film that gently meanders along touching upon facets of love between a man and a woman, a father and a son, and a grandfather and grandson, the elements are infused with precision.. Though backed by a genial script, one cannot discount the overpowering nature of Thilakan’s acting. When he serves his grandson a specially-made black tea, he whispers to him to sprinkle some love in it every time he makes one. He even chips in with his own love story, the climax of which is sweeter than his smile. Lokanathan chooses his angles with craft and finds it wonderfully convenient to have a glimpse of the lovers on the beach through the windows of a hotel. His frames are as madly in love with the ranting waves, the sun and the sand, as they are with the close ups of the characters from whom arise stirring moments.”


On the other hand, Dulquer Salmaan’s recent outing was ‘Lucky Baskhar’ which turned out to be a superhit.
