Fahadh Faasil on ‘Dhoomam’s failure, says “Good concept, poor execution”

'Aavesham' actor Fahadh Faasil recently opened up about his latest film Dhoomam, acknowledging that the movie's concept held promise but failed in execution.

The movie had generated substantial anticipation due to the successful collaboration and Fahadh’s involvement, but initial audience reactions were less than favorable. Fahadh's performance was one of the few bright spots in the film, but the overall project struggled to resonate with audiences.


In his comments, Fahadh stated during the promotional event of 'Aavesham' that the film's subject matter was problematic, elaborating that while certain concepts might sound promising in theory, they do not always translate well on screen. He also noted that some topics should not be made into films, suggesting Dhoomam fell into that category.

In Dhoomam, Fahadh plays a high-flying executive at a tobacco firm who becomes embroiled in a revenge saga linked to the very products he had been promoting fervently. While there was initial speculation that the film aimed to highlight the dangers of smoking and discourage the habit, Fahadh clarified that the movie's focus was instead on the complex relationships between big corporations, with a tobacco company being nearly wholly owned by a life insurance firm.

However, the film's central themes were not effectively conveyed to audiences, who largely perceived it as a revenge thriller. In addition to Fahadh, the film featured a strong cast, including Achyuth Kumar, Roshan Mathew, and Aparna Balamurali. Dhoomam was released in Malayalam and Kannada but struggled to find its footing in either market.

Despite Dhoomam's disappointing performance, Fahadh Faasil continues to excel with his latest success, Aavesham. Directed by the 'Romancham' fame Jithu Madhavan, 'Aavesham' has raked in Rs 42 crores in 5 days.
