In recent years especially in the entertainment industry, numerous incidents have highlighted the dangers of excessive fan fervor, particularly in South India, where film stars are often treated as deities. The majority of these accidents happen during the promotions for a movie or during an actor’s birthday. Here let’s take a look at such tragic incidents that happened in recent times in the south film industry.

Ajith fan loses life in tragic accident

A 19-year-old fan of actor Ajith Kumar tragically lost his life while celebrating the release of the film ‘Thunivu.’ The young man fell from a moving tanker lorry while dancing atop it, a common practice among fans to express their enthusiasm. Fans gathered to watch the 1 am show of ‘Thunivu’ in front of Rohini Theatre at Koyambedu and they were seen dancing in the streets. The young man named J Bharath Kumar was seen dancing atop a moving tanker lorry from where he fell and suffered a fracture to the spinal cord and died at the hospital.

Stampede at Allu Arjun's ‘Pushpa 2’ screening leads to fan's death

A female fan of Allu Arjun tragically lost her life, and her son was critically injured in a stampede that occurred during a screening of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule.’ Taking to social media, Allu Arjun reacted to the tragic death. He said, I sincerely apologize to the family and assure you that we will always offer our support. We are truly sorry. We had no idea what had occurred. I've been attending theatre openings for 20 years, and, unfortunately, this happened."

Suriya fans electrocuted while celebrating the actor's birthday

Two young fans of actor Suriya were electrocuted while setting up a banner to celebrate the actor's birthday. The incident happened in July where the victims were identified as N Venkatesh and P Sai. Both met with a tragic fate as they were fixing the actor’s flex which was attached to an iron rod that accidentally made contact with an overhead electric wire.


Vijay condoles death of a Malayali fan

During the year 2014, a die-hard fan of Tamil actor Vijay, from Kerala, Vadakkencherry, succumbed to death as he fell from a flex board of a Vijay film. The victim named Unnikrishnan was reportedly climbing the flex board for a 'Palabhishekam'. Reacting to this, Vijay penned a letter that read, "I deeply mourn and extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Sri Unnikrishnan from Vadakkencherry, who lost his life during the celebrations yesterday. The loss of my loved one is irrecoverable and will remain in my heart forever. I humbly request all fans to show your support in ways that do not endanger your life and the lives of those around you... Kindly take adequate safety and security measures, otherwise these kind of incidents give unbearable pain. Your respect for yourself is a sign of your respect for me."
