Happy Birthday Anwar Rasheed: Five movies of the director that you should watch right now!

Be it the movies he makes or the movies he has funded, filmmaker Anwar Rasheed makes sure to leave his signature on the projects he takes up. Beginning his career with Megastar Mammootty, Anwar Rasheed has turned out to be a trendsetting filmmaker. Trying different genres and picking unique actors, it’s almost impossible to guess what the filmmaker is aiming for next. Although he is unpredictable, audience can trust that the money they spend on movie tickets won’t go waste. As the talented filmmaker celebrates his birthday today, here’s taking a look at five of his movies that are unmissable.

2/6

Rajamanikyam

‘Rajamanikyam’ is Anwar Rasheed’s debut directorial. Starring Mammootty, ‘Rajamanikyam’ is one of its kind. Casting the megastar in an unconventional avatar, especially with dialogues in the Trivandrum dialect, which could have turned hilarious if something had gone wrong, the movie was a tough choice for any beginner. But the mass entertainer emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of Mammootty. Mammootty essayed the lead Bellary Raja aka Rajamanikyam in the movie and it generated nothing but applause apart from the great box office numbers. The swag of the character and Mammootty’s charismatic performance just adds to the glory of the movie and it’s one of the best movies of Megastar Mammootty that you must watch right away.

3/6

Chotta Mumbai

Second directorial, another superstar! 'Chotta Mumbai' starring Mohanlal is a comedy-drama that also has elements of action. Mohanlal essayed Thala as the head of a gang that has petty criminals. Set in Fort Kochi, the movie is an impressive comedy-drama. Detailing Thala and his gang’s daily activities, the movie is a perfect treat for the audience who wants to relax in their leisure time. Popular scenarist Benny P Nayarambalam has crafted the script for the movie. Mohanlal dons the unusual avatar with utter perfection and the black comedy is a must-watch.

4/6

Annan Thambi

Yet another collaboration with Mammootty, 'Annan Thambi' sees the actor in two roles. A family entertainer, the movie is scripted by Benny P Nayarambalam. In the film, Appu and Achu are twin brothers with extremely opposite characters. Achu is a family man who is mute, while Appu is gutsy and often lands himself in trouble. The movie has the perfect mix of comedy, emotions, action and some thrilling moments to wait for. This one too became a hit amongst the audience and at the box office.

5/6

Ustad Hotel

One of the best movies of the past decade, 'Ustad Hotel' has actors Thilakan, Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menon essaying the leads. The movie revolves around a young man Feyze (Dulquer Salmaan) and his grandpa Kareem Bhai (Thilakan). Feyzee is inspired to be a chef and is a degree holder. While Kareem Bhai is a local chef who learnt cooking with experience, he cooks with love and for him being a chef is more than a profession. From the Sulaimani (black tea) to the way he makes Biryani, Kareem's journey is beautifully portrayed in the movie.

6/6

Trance

Anwar Rasheed’s directorial ‘Trance’ can be referred to as a bold experimental movie, which didn’t make as much buzz as was expected. Starring Fahadh Faasil, the movie is a watchable one for film lovers who like experiencing something novel. The cast, the performance, the music, everything is of top-notch quality and the idea is undoubtedly the best. Also, the latest work from Anwar Rasheed, the movie is a must-watch for the audience.
