HBD Asin Thottumkal: The star who worked with Suriya, Salman, Aamir, and delivered Rs 100 crore hits

Popular actress Asin is celebrating her birthday on this day (October 26). Making her debut with the Malayalam veteran director Sathyan Anthikkad’s superhit film ‘Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka’, the actress Asin Thottumkal has made her mark in Tamil, Telugu and Bollywood film industries and just when the actress was gearing up for her next big change, she quit the industry.

Being a trained Bharatanatyam dancer, Asin’s entry into the film field was with the most talented Kunchacko Boban in the Sathyan Anthikkad’s directorial comedy drama movie ‘Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka’. The film turned out to be a superhit.


Asin had a grand opening in the Telugu film industry with the success of ‘Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi’, followed by her magnificent entry in Tamil film industry with the blockbuster film ‘M.Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi’.


With all these hit films, Asin fate took another magnificent turn as she was roped in for the Suriya starrer ‘Ghajini’. Inspired by Christopher Nolan’s film ‘Memento’, ‘Ghajini’ directed by AR Murugadoss turned out to be an all-time blockbuster. Later she made a firm ground in the Tamil film industry with her roles in ‘Sivakasi’, ‘Pokkiri’, ‘Vel’, and ‘Dasavathaaram’. Asin was considered as the luck charm in the film industry, attributed to her back to back hits.


Things were just getting started for Asin as she stepped into the world of Bollywood with the remake of the Tamil film ‘Ghajini’. Starring Aamir Khan in the lead, ‘Ghajini’ coined the term ‘100 crore’ club and created a new milestone for other films to follow. Asin later starred in the Salman Khan starrer ‘Ready’, followed by the movies ‘Housefull 2’, ‘Bol Bachchan’, ‘Khiladi 786’, and ‘All is Well’. It can be said that the films after ‘Ready’, were quite underwhelming compared to the benchmark set by the actress before.


After ‘All is Well’, Asin retired from acting. On the personal front, Asin married the businessman Rahul Sharma on January 19, 2016.


Asin keeps a low profile after her acting retirement. Having one million followers on Instagram, Asin is still loved by many for her magnificent performances in memorable roles and the audiences are eagerly waiting for her comeback.
