How Malayalam Cinema Quietly Dominated Indian Cinema in 2025
Vishak said that both he and his brother grew up together with a strong love for cinema. They played together, dreamed together, and shared everything. Losing his brother at a young age was something that hurt him very deeply and changed his life forever.
Making films as kids and facing a big loss
Vishak Nair shared his memories in his own words. He said, “When I was around twelve or thirteen years old my brother and I started shooting videos together using a small DV camera.
Back then we used to watch WWE, The Matrix, Anniyan, and other films. We would act out our own versions of those movies at home and shoot them. Our friends also joined in slowly. But my brother passed away when I was around 16 years old.”
Nair explained how his brother’s death shook him deeply. “His death affected me very deeply,” Vishak said. To help him come out of that pain his friends suggested making a film. “At that time direction was what I had in mind,” he shared.
Choosing cinema for his brother
Vishak spoke about a moment that changed his thinking forever. While he was studying, 'Plus One', a film he made with his friends, was screened during his school anniversary. “There were about 500 students there. As our one-and-a-half-hour film played we could see the audience clapping, laughing, and getting emotional. That moment made me feel that I could choose this field as my path,” he said.
“Even now I feel that I am living my life for my brother too. Because he was an extrovert. He was better than me in dance, singing, and acting. Until I lost him I was just a studious kid. IIT, aeronautical engineering, MBA, those were the things on my mind. I liked cinema and all that but I never thought of it as a career. But after he was gone I decided that I should do something that he would have loved too,” Vishak Nair said.
'Chatha Pacha' continues to do well in theatres. The film is directed by Adwaith Nair. It stars Arjun Ashokan, Roshan Mathew, Ishan Shoukath, and Vishak Nair in key roles. Mammootty’s cameo appearance is receiving mixed responses from the viewers.
