Actress Lakshmi Chandramouli is thrilled about her latest movie, Salt Mango Tree, the third directorial venture of Rajesh Nair. While Lakshmi debuted in Mollywood as a supporting actress in Angels, this will be the first film in which she will be playing the lead character. On her role in the movie, the theatre artiste-turned-actress says, “I play a mother named Priya Aravind, whose priority is her family.
Every mother will relate to my character. I used to observe the mother of the child, who plays my son in the film, to get a hang of the bond.” About the genre of her movie she says that though humour forms the crux of the film, it is not a mindless comedy and it has a message to deliver.
Lakshmi is cast opposite Biju Menon, and the
Sutta Kadhai actress says that working with him has been a learning experience. “He is a spontaneous and brilliant actor. His sense of humour and comic timing were incredible. His improvisations helped raising the beauty of the scenes,” she says.
Not many know that the zesty actress who has a theatre background is also a member of the national cricket team. Ask her which one she wants to focus on, she says, “Though I have been active in sports for most of my life, currently, the actor in me is more dominant.”
It seems the theatre stint has helped the actress hone her acting skills. “Being in theatre has taught me to explore the process of acting and reacting to scenes. My background has surely helped me in terms of dialogue delivery and voice modulation,” she says.
Lakshmi muses that among the new set of films, her picks are
Bangalore Days, Premam and
Oru Vadakkan Selfie. “Fahadh, Dulquer and Nivin are brilliant actors that I wonder how it is to act with them. The characters they played in these films were so impressive that it stayed with me.”
On her dream role, she says, “I want to work on a project, themed on sports, which is my real life passion as well.”
