The actor was apparently busy with the Hindi remake of Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu, where he plays the lead. The film, which revolves around a gang of village boys who are into kabbadi, is going to release soon.
A visibly excited Nishan says the timing couldn’t have been better for the film, now that India bagged gold medals at the Asian Games for kabbadi. “I have played kabbadi, but it is after doing the film that I realised there are so many rules involved in the game. We had to undergo one month’s training under a state-level kabbadi coach for the shoot to make kabbadi scenes look authentic. Except for a few actors, the rest were real players,” he says.

Thus the sports scenes were not staged, but the actors were just asked to play with cameras on. However, doing a sports film is nothing new to Nishan, who has done a film titled Cycle Kick, which is based on football. The film is yet to hit the screens. He was also a state level tennis champion. “I have always been an outdoors person; sports come naturally to me,” he says.
So how come the makers opted for a South actor for a Hindi film? “They wanted someone new, without an image and they liked my work so far,” he says. Nishan has dubbed for himself in the film. The story has been tweaked a bit to suit the audience but the basics remain the same. Saranya Mohan reprises her role from the original, and plays the heroine in the remake.
Meanwhile, he is also awaiting the release of Chai Shai Biscuit, a satire on arranged marriage, in which he plays the lead. “Work is over for a Tamil Malayalam bilingual as well; will update on it soon,” he signs off.
