'Imaikkaa Nodigal' director Ajay Gnanamuthu reveals why he picked Nayanthara over Mammootty

As the much anticipated Tamil movie 'Imaikkaaa Nodigal' nears its theatrical release, director Ajay Gnanamuthu has revealed why he preferred Nayanthara over Mammootty for the lead role.


According to Gnanamuthu, Mammootty was initially approached in 2014 to play the lead role in the movie, which the Malayalam actor even accepted. However, as many changes were made to the script and characters, it altered the concept of the lead star. Gnanamuthu reportedly said that after making the changes, he felt that Nayanthara would be apt to play the part. The director said that with a female lead, the character could be elevated to another emotional level as preferred.


Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap make his Tamil debut by playing the antagonist's role. The Bollywood director will apparently play the role of a psychopath serial killer and Nayanthara will play the role of a CBI officer who is on the hunt to catch him. Atharva, Rashi Khanna are other actors who will play important roles in the movie.
