It is us who need cinema:Kavya Madhavan
In the past, Kavya Madhavan was known best for her typical innocent village belle characters, a role she fitted to perfection. However, ever since the new wave hit Malayalam cinema, few films were being made with village settings, and Kavya too took a break from films.
Now, after a break of nearly two years, she is back with a bang on the acting scene, with a handful of interesting films in her kitty.

While She-Taxi is in theatres now, work is on for Akashavani. In both the films, the actress has strong and interesting characters, and the films practically revolve around her.
So, does she feel that Malayalam cinema now has a space for actresses like her? “I have never believed that there is such a thing as a space for each actor in the film industry. It’s not like when I left the scene, a vacant space was created. Films are never dependant on one person. On the contrary, it is us who need cinema, cinema doesn’t need any of us. It will go on, whoever comes or goes,” says the actress. The perfect example for this, according to her, is the situation when Jagathy Sreekumar’s unfortunate accident occurred. “Could we even imagine cinema without Jagathy uncle? Malayalis were so used to him,” says the actress.
