‘Jailer’ director Sakkir Madathil declares solo protest as film faces screenings decline in Kerala

Mollywood actor Dhyan Sreenivasan’s upcoming thriller ‘Jailer’ has already made the headlines for having the same title as Rajinikanth’s upcoming action flick ‘Jailer’. Now the Malayalam ‘Jailer’ director Sakkir Madathil has declared a protest at the Film Chamber in Ernakulam as the film faces screenings decline in Kerala theatres.


Talking to the media, the ‘Jailer’ director Sakkir Madathil said that the Malayalam film industry is facing a serious issue due to the overwhelming influence of Tamil cinema in Kerala. Reportedly the director said that his film is not getting the required screenings in Kerala theatres.

Earlier, Sakkir Madathil wrote a notice to the makers of Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’ asking them to change the title of the movie. According to the sources, the makers of Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’ refused the director’s demand to change the title. Sakkir also reportedly sent a letter to Rajinikanth and the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce to take the issue seriously.

Interestingly, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’ will be hitting the big screens on the same day. It will be the first time that a Malayalam film with no A-list actors is locking horns with a Tamil biggie. Both the movies will be gracing the big screens on August 10 this year.
