The sequel of the film ‘

Drishyam 2

’, which was released in February this year, emerged as a global phenomenon, thanks to the direct digital release on OTT! And talks about its remake in Bollywood are underway.

The Hindi remake of the prequel was helmed by Nishikant Kamat, and as the filmmaker is no more, cinephiles are now wondering who would don the director’s cap for the upcoming Hindi remake of the Mohanlal starrer film.

Filmmaker Jeethu Joseph, who is the creator of the original movie, which is in Malayalam, has already shot a few portions of its Telugu remake. And as the filmmaker has also done a Bollywood movie ‘The Body’, thus speculations are rife that Jeethu Joseph might direct the Hindi remake of ‘Drishyam 2’ as well.

So we reached out to Jeethu Joseph to know whether he will be directing the Hindi remake of the sequel and the director has dismissed the rumour. “No, I won’t be directing it," he clarifies.

When asked if he has an apt person in mind to chair the Hindi film, he dodged the question saying, “Let the makers decide.”

Although Panorama Studios International, bagged the Hindi remake rights of the film and announced the same in May, it went into a legal soup after Viacom filed a suit.

Meanwhile, the Hindi remake of ‘Drishyam’ featured Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, and Mrunal Jadhav in lead roles.

On the other hand, in the original sequel Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, and Asha Sharath reprised their roles from the 2013 film ‘Drishyam’.

‘Drishyam 2’ was expected to be released on the big screens, but the makers decided to release it direct to the OTT platform owing to the pandemic situation. Despite that, the film had a dream run and Jeethu Joseph surpassed the expectations of the cinephiles in the sequel!
