During a private event, Jiiva was asked about veteran actress Radhika Sarathkumar’s recent revelations regarding hidden cameras on Malayalam film sets and the unauthorized recording of actresses in compromising situations. Jiiva responded by asserting that such problems are confined to Malayalam cinema and do not exist in Tamil cinema. "Such issues don’t happen in Tamil industry, it’s only in Kerala," Jiiva remarked, a statement that quickly drew attention and criticism.

Jiiva initially attempted to deflect the questions, advising the media to refrain from discussing such topics at a positive event that he was attending. However, as the questioning persisted, his irritation became evident, leading to a heated exchange with reporters. He reiterated his stance, firmly stating that Tamil cinema is free from these issues and that the problems are specific to the Malayalam film industry.

According to On Manorama, the situation escalated, resulting in a verbal confrontation between Jiiva and the media. Frustrated, Jiiva eventually left the event without making further comments. His remarks have sparked controversy, with many questioning his dismissal of the issues and the implication that Tamil cinema is immune to such problems.

The Hema Committee report, which uncovered widespread sexual harassment and abuse of female actors in Malayalam cinema, has led to intense scrutiny and discussions within the South Indian film community. In response to the growing concerns, Tamil actor Vishal recently announced that the Nadigar Sangam, the Tamil actors' association, will establish a committee similar to the Hema Committee within the next ten days. This new initiative aims to address and prevent harassment and abuse within Kollywood, ensuring a safer environment for all actors.
