Jude Anthany Joseph, the director behind the impactful Malayalam film '2018,' recently shared insightful details about his experience during the Oscars campaign in an interview with Galatta Plus. Although '2018' didn't secure a spot in the Oscars' Best International Feature shortlist, Jude revealed the invaluable guidance he received from Pan Nalin, the director of the previous year's Indian entry, 'Chhello Show.'

Jude highlighted the financial aspect, noting how 'Chhello Show' secured a position among the final 15 films at the Oscars due to backing from Siddharth Roy Kapur. Emphasising the need for financial support, Jude expressed concern about the comparably limited support from India's Film Federation, citing other nations' stronger backing despite their economic constraints.

In preparation for the upcoming year's submission, Jude intends to create a comprehensive checklist based on Pan Nalin's advice. He said, “I talked to him over a call for one and a half hours, and he guided me about things that Pan Nalin understood only after the Oscars campaign.

Being overwhelmed by '2018' being selected as India's official Oscars entry for 2024, Jude Anthany Joseph lauded the enriching journey at the Oscars, relishing the opportunity to screen the film and engage with members for feedback. He was thrilled by the reception of his film in the US, where audiences were astonished to learn about its meager 3 million budget, highlighting the disparities between Hollywood's financial scale and Malayalam cinema's constraints.
