While actress
Dhanya Mary Varghese
has been active in the TV industry in the past three years playing the titular role in
Seetha Kalyanam
, it’s been almost a decade since she acted in a movie. The actress, however, will mark her comeback to the big screen with
Manu Ashokan’s
Kaanekkaane
, which has
Tovino Thomas,
Aishwarya Lekshmi, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Shruti Ramachandran.
On being part of a movie since Mohanlal’s Pranayam in 2011, Dhanya says, “The reason I took it up is that director Manu Ashokan’s wife Shreya, whom I had worked with earlier, had called me. They were first looking at newcomers for the role and then decided to cast a familiar face and that’s how they approached me. They wanted me to join the sets the next day and told me it was a scene with Tovino and Aishwarya.”
While it was “just a guest appearance”, Dhanya says she “wasn’t prepared for it”. “I wasn’t looking to get back to movies because I have been busy with the serial and was hoping that I would take up good film offers only after that. But this was too good an opportunity to miss because the movie had a great team with Bobby and Sanjay as scriptwriters and Manu as the director. I loved their previous film Uyare and I signed this film just to gain that experience of working with them,” explains the actress, who had earlier acted in movies such as Thalappavu and Drona 2010.
She joined the sets of Kaanekkaane after taking a Covid test and completed her portions a few days ago. “Working in a film now is different from what it was a decade ago. Right now, I guess there’s no need to act, you just have to behave naturally and say your dialogues in the most casual manner. I believe it will help my skills if I get to be part of more such movies,” she says.
Talking about her serial Seetha Kalyanam, Dhanya says, “The shoot is going on and we are almost nearing 600 episodes now. So, it has been a long and great journey. Naturally, in serials, there are a lot more emotional scenes and you have to overdo those.
