After 12 days, Kalamkaval has collected an estimated Rs 33.60 crore India net as reported by the Sacnilk website. The film opened well, earning Rs 5 crore on its first day, followed by Rs 5.5 crore on Day 2. The second weekend gave a small push, with Day 10 bringing in Rs 2.15 crore. However, collections dropped sharply on the second Monday, with Rs 75 lakhs which was followed by Rs 65 lakhs on Day 12.
Occupancy on second Tuesday
On Day 12, 'Kalamkaval' had an overall Malayalam occupancy of 14.23 percent. Morning shows started on a lower note with 7.49 percent. Afternoon shows saw a slight improvement at 13.93 percent. Evening shows stayed steady at 13.55 percent, while night shows performed better with 21.94 percent occupancy.
Audience response and genre appeal
Kalamkaval is a serious crime drama and does not follow the usual mass entertainer format. Mammootty’s performance as the serial killer with similarities to the real life killer Cyanide Mohan, is getting much love from the audiences. From the starting sequence till the end, Mammootty and Vinayakan engages the audiences with their intense performances.
