'Kalamkaval' release: Mammootty's film to hit the big screens on October - Reports

Speculation is heating up in the Malayalam film industry about the release of 'Kalamkaval' which is the much-awaited thriller starring Mammootty and Vinayakan. According to the latest reports, the film is likely to hit theatres on October 9, 2025.



As reported by IANS, the distribution house owned by Dulquer Salmaan, has already communicated this tentative release date to theatre owners. However, an official announcement from the makers or distributors is still awaited.

The venom beneath - 'Kalamkaval'

The film marks the seventh production from Mammootty Kampany, the star’s own banner. Interest around the project spiked after Mammootty unveiled the film’s title and first look poster on X (formerly Twitter), with the chilling tagline, “The venom beneath.” The second look poster followed earlier this year, carrying the ominous line: “Some faces raise questions... not answers.”

A gritty role that promises something different from Mammootty

Directed by Jithin K Jose, 'Kalamkaval' is said to present Mammootty in a role unlike any he has done before. Though the team has remained tight-lipped about his character’s specifics, Mammootty will be reportedly taking up a complex role—possibly one with grey shades.

Jithin K Jose has co-written the story and screenplay with Jishnu Sreekumar. The technical crew includes cinematographer Faisal Ali, editor Praveen Prabhakar, and music composer Mujeeb Majeed. Stunts are choreographed by Action Santhosh.

Fans await official word as festival season nears

As Onam releases wrap up and theatres prepare for the October window, fans are keenly watching for an official date. If Kalamkaval does release on October 9, it could turn into one of the season’s major highlights, with Mammootty once again pushing the envelope in terms of performance and storytelling.

Meanwhile, the year 2025 so far, has been an underwhelming one for Mammootty as majority of his recent films 'Bazooka', 'Dominic and the Ladies' Purse', failed to shine at the box office.
