KS Chithra pays tributes to late music director Alleppey Ranganath

Alleppey Ranganath

passed away on January 16. He was 73. The musician was reportedly undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital in Kottayam, after testing positive for Covid- 19.

has penned a note paying tribute to the late musician. She recalled working with the musician for a few films including ‘Captain’.

“Saddened to hear about the sudden demise of a multi-faceted artist Alleppy

Ranganath

master. He was a music director, lyricist & dancer. I was fortunate enough to work with him for some of his films like “Aarande mulla kochu mulla”, “Captain”, “Mattoru Mukham” etc. He was a recipient of Harivarasanam award this year. Yet another loss in this pandemic. May his soul rest in heavenly peace and A thought of comfort and condolence to the grieving family. ��,” KS Chithra said in his social media note.


Alleppey Ranganath was born in 1949 in a family of musicians. He was the eldest among six children of Alappuzha Vezhappra Kunjukunju Bhagavathar and Gana Bhushanam M G Devammal.

A multi-faceted talent, Alleppey Ranganath began his journey in cinema through the 1973 film ‘Jesus’, for which he composed the song ‘

Hosanna

’. He has also directed 42 plays and 25 dance dramas. He wrote and composed music for a play by the Kanjirapally People's Arts Club at the age of 19. Ranganath recently wrote 10 keerthanas, composed in Carnatic music, based on Bible verses. He had also penned numerous Lord Ayyappa devotional songs and received the Harivarasanam Award this year.
