“Nedumudi venu sir… it is very difficult to describe him or his talent. I can only feel immense gratitude to have acted with him at shared many stages including a tour of the US… I have precious learnings and memories. He was a guru to me,”

Lakshmi Gopalaswami

said in her note.

The actress also recalled that

Nedumudi

Venu had huge regards for classical artists and was an admirer of Kathakali. “Nedumudi venu sir was true, blue blood artist who had enormous passionate for classical arts and a huge respect for classical artists. A kathakali buff, his heroes and idols were not film actors but the great kathakali Ashans. During our travels esp in the bus ( to and from the venue ) I would sit with him and simply absorb all that he had to share about kathakali ,the arts etc, a good Mridangm himself. He would always tell me that acting in film is ok and relatively easier but my pursuit should always be classical dance, theatre etc...the performing arts (sic),” she said.

Lakshmi Gopalaswamy also recalled working with the actor for the film ‘

Thaniye

’.

“‘Thaniye’ a film directed by Babu Thiruvalla about a home nurse and an old man is one of my favourites in my career. This experience was like an acting lab for me , 15 days in Idikki district , in a bungalow amidst the tea gardens . Sir was my mentor , guiding pointing out every minute nuance while acting .infact I did get my second state award for this film and I attribute it entirely to Nedumudi venu sir. Other than this, a man with a great sense of humour , we would share our own moments, often I would in good humour tell him about some flirtatious opportunists And that would be our private little joke every time we bumped into each other . And everytime would he would mischievously enquire about them with a glint in his eyeNone like you Nedumudi venu sir.pranaamam Rest in peace ” she said.

Meanwhile, Nedumudi Venu passed away on Monday (Oct 11). He was 73.
