Mammootty condemns Kuwait fire tragedy: 'I pray that you gather courage and find solace'

In the early hours of Wednesday (June 12), a devastating fire broke out in Mangaf, a densely populated area in the Ahmadi Governorate of southern Kuwait, home to many foreign workers. The fire rapidly consumed a six-storeyed building, resulting in the tragic loss of 49 lives.

Malayalam actor Mammootty, known for his compassionate engagement with social issues, took to Twitter to express his condolences. His emotional tweet read, "Heartfelt condolences to the families of those affected by the Kuwait fire accident. I pray that you gather courage and find solace in this difficult time."

The tweet quickly garnered numerous comments, with many users sharing their own messages of sympathy and support.

Among the deceased, 42 were Indian nationals, with at least five hailing from Kerala. The incident also left over 50 people injured.

The building, housing approximately 195 migrant workers, turned into an inferno at dawn, catching many residents off-guard. Emergency responders and firefighters rushed to the scene, but the intensity of the blaze made rescue operations extremely challenging. Survivors were pulled from the wreckage and transported to local hospitals, where many are currently receiving treatment for their injuries.

According to Hindustan Times, the victims of the fire included workers from various countries, such as Pakistan, the Philippines, Egypt, and Nepal, reflecting the diverse migrant community in Kuwait. The Indian government has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and is coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities to provide assistance to the affected families.
