Mammootty dismisses cancer rumours, confirms he is healthy and on a break for Ramzan
Malayalam superstar Mammootty has shut down viral social media rumours claiming he was diagnosed with cancer and admitted to a hospital in Chennai in critical condition. The false reports spread rapidly, sparking concern among fans.
Mammootty’s team issued an official statement, calling the rumours "fake news." His Public Relations (PR) team clarified that the legendary actor is currently on a vacation while observing fasting for Ramzan and is taking a scheduled break from filming, adding that he has been spending quality time with his family in Chennai. “In fact, after the break, he will return to shooting for Mahesh Narayanan’s film with Mohanlal,” his PR representative told Mid-Day.
A Reddit post claimed that Mammootty was in the early stages of colon cancer, but reassured that it was treatable. This unverified claim quickly spread across social media, leading to confusion and concern among his fans. However, Mammootty’s team has completely debunked the speculation, confirming that he is in good health and not hospitalized.
On the work front, Mammootty and Mohanlal recently started filming their much-awaited project in Sri Lanka in November 2023. The film, tentatively titled MMMN, is directed by Mahesh Narayanan and is rumored to feature Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, and Fahadh Faasil. However, an official cast announcement is still awaited.
This project marks the first on-screen reunion of Mammootty and Mohanlal in 16 years. The duo previously collaborated in Kadal Kadannu Oru Maathukutty (2013), where Mohanlal made a cameo, and earlier in Christian Brothers (2011), where Mammootty had a guest role.
On the other hand, Mammootty's 'Bazooka' is all set to hit the big screens on April 10. The movie is directed by the debutant Deeno Dennis and is touted to be a game thriller. The film will also have Gautham Menon in a pivotal role. Mammootty's previous outing was the investigative film 'Dominic and the Ladies' Purse'.
