Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham is set in the 16th century Portuguese India and is based on the battles of Kunjali Marakkar IV—the fourth naval chieftain of the Zamorin of Calicut. Kunjali Marakkars organised the first naval defense of the Indian coast and safeguarded Calicut from Portuguese invasion for almost a century.
Daya is a 1998 Malayalam period film written by M. T. Vasudevan Nair, directed by Venu. The movie is based on a story from One Thousand and One Nights.
