MB Padmakumar reveals none of Mammootty's films were submitted for 70th National Film Awards amidst fans' disappointment - WATCH

The announcement of the 70th National Film Awards today (August 16) sparked both celebration and disappointment across various film industries. While many deserving artists were honored, a notable absence was felt as Malayalam icon Mammootty did not receive recognition for his acclaimed performances in ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ and ‘Rorschach,’ despite earning accolades for other films such as ‘Aattam’ and ‘Saudi Vellakka.’

This led to an outpouring of discontent among Malayali fans. In response, South Zone jury member and filmmaker MB Padmakumar took to social media to address the situation, revealing that none of Mammootty's films had been submitted for consideration by the jury, which he emphasized as the primary reason for the actor's omission.

As the fan debate divided social media, Padmakumar shared a detailed video on his Instagram account, saying, “Even though films like ‘Aattam’ got the recognition they deserved, Mammootty's lack of an award is disheartening. However, many people are unaware that none of his films were submitted to the jury board for consideration.”

Padmakumar dismissed any allegations of government interference or bias, calling such claims unfounded. He expressed regret that the Malayalam industry missed the opportunity to honor one of its biggest stars. Meanwhile, online debates have emerged, with some arguing that Mammootty deserved the Best Actor award over Rishab Shetty, who ultimately won for his performance in ‘Kantara.
