The Meera Jasmine-Narain pairing was a favourite with audiences in the noughties, particularly with Achuvinte Amma and Minnaminnikoottam. So, it will be exciting to see, not only with the actress making a gradual comeback, but also this fun, romantic combo together again in 'Joseph' M Padmakumar's Queen Elizabeth, a romantic comedy.
Speaking about her role, the director points out that Meera will portray a woman who was independent since childhood. "Meera plays a bold woman who has never seen society as something that she needs to rely on. Eventually, changes in her life lead her to explore love and relationships. When we thought of an actress to portray such a strong character, Meera came to mind, though she was based abroad. And as soon as she heard the story, she liked it," says Padmakumar.

The film revolves around the lives of two people in their early 30s, who unexpectedly find that romance enters their lives. “I have worked with Narain before. We thought bringing the duo back together would be wonderful. And it has worked well. I didn't expect Narain to handle the situational comedy the way he did. He is fantastic in the film,” says Padmakumar.
The film was mostly shot in Kochi, Vagamon and Coimbatore. The film also features Shweta Menon, Johny Antony, Renji Panicker and 2018 director Jude Anthany Joseph. Santosham scriptwriter Arjun T Sathyan has written this script and cinematography is by Jithu Damodar. Ranjin Raj is the composer.

Padmakumar notes how not many Malayalam films have struck the chord with the audience recently. "I am not just a filmmaker but also a film viewer. I watch a lot of films. When we see it as a viewer we understand why something has or hasn’t worked. In my film, what I can do is something that satisfies me as a viewer," he says.

Padmakumar is exploring romantic-comedy for the first time and he says initially he was nervous about it. "Now, I feel it's easy. However, it depends a lot on the actors. In other genres, we can improvise. Here, it depends on how the artiste delivers it and our excellent actors have done a great job with the script,” he says.
