Mohanlal took a moment to pay tribute to his late co-star Kanakalatha, who passed away on May 6. the actor took to his Facebook account to express his condolences and reminisce about their collaborations in several movies. He also mentioned their 1989 film ‘Kireedam’.

On May 7, Mohanlal wrote, “Our beloved Kanakalatha was once an active figure in Malayalam cinema. She has played various roles in more than 280 Malayalam and Tamil films. Our paths crossed in numerous movies, including the notable film Kireedam. My heartfelt condolences to a beloved sister who has departed from this world." Mohanlal and Kanakalatha were also seen together in ‘Spadikam’.

Kanakalatha showcased her talent in both Malayalam and Tamil films. But symptoms of Parkinson’s and dementia began to manifest in 2021. Kanakalatha's illustrious career spanned over three decades, encompassing theatre, TV serials, and over 350 films in various languages. She gained recognition in the Malayalam film industry with the 1982 film ‘Chillu’.

Kanakalatha's filmography boasts several acclaimed roles, including memorable performances in movies like ‘Kannezhuthi Pottumthottu’, ‘Varnapakittu’, ‘Spadikam’, ‘Kireedam’, ‘Rajavinte Makan’, and ‘Chillu’. Her talent and dedication earned her praise and admiration from critics and fans alike.

The 63-year-old actress breathed her last at her residence in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, after battling a prolonged illness. Her sister, Vijayamma, revealed last year that Kanakalatha had been battling illness since 2021, with dementia confirmed by her doctor in August 2022. Despite her struggles, Kanakalatha continued to leave an indelible mark on the film industry.
