Mohanlal has never been averse to playing the father and son in the same movie. He has done it previously in movies such as Udayon and Ravanaprabhu, and has attempted it once again for his upcoming movie

Joju, who has co-directed the movie with Jibi, tells us that Mohanlal’s portions as the father of the movie’s titular character Ittymaani was shot recently in China. “We would be showing Ittymaani’s father in only a few scenes and that was filmed in China,” he says.

One of the stills from the China schedule had Mohanlal in the get-up of a Chinese martial artist. “That was part of a song sequence we had filmed that had Lal sir’s character as well as a few Tai Chi fighters. The character per se is not a martial artist in the movie,” Joju explains.

While Honey Rose’s character Jessy essays Ittymaani’s romantic interest, Joseph fame Madhuri Braganza has been cast to play the similar role in the life of Ittymaani’s father, says the co-director.

The film is also arguably one of first Malayalam films to be shot in China. On the experience, the debutant director tells us, “People in China are sticklers for time and plan. When we say the shoot has to start at 6 am, they are there on the dot. So, the shoot went smooth. The only issue we faced was that it was raining the four days we were there in China. Just before we arrived and soon after we left, it was sunny. So, we had weaved in the weather as part of song sequences as well.”
