Mollywood couples who parted ways and are happy in their own spaces

In literature and movies, we often meet characters who are madly in love with each other, consider themselves soulmates, and live happily ever after. But those fairy tales, love stories, and ‘perfect’ marriages aren’t what most of us encounter in our real lives. Like any other relationship, problems might arise in marriages too. While some choose to fake it and make others happy, a few others opt to call it quit and make themselves happy. Recently Bollywood star couple Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao announced ending their 15-years of marriage. Although the news has come as a shocker to many, the duo parted ways amicably and without slinging mud at each other.

Mollywood’s audience too has seen some heartbreaking divorces. While a few chose to part their ways with respect, a few others ended up washing their dirty linen in public.

Here’s taking a look back at the celebrity breakups in Malayalam cinema.

Priyadarshan - Lissy

Filmmaker Priyadarshan and actress Lissy called it quits in 2014, after 24 years of marriage. The duo has worked together in several movies and it was during the time they fell in love. The couple got officially separated in 2016 and the divorce was mutual. “This is the end of a long and often very difficult road. All of us can now move on,” Lissy said in a statement following the divorce. The duo has two children - Kalyani and Siddharth. In an earlier interview with a daily, Kalyani Priyadarshan has shared that the separation “always takes a toll,” but lauded her parents for not putting them (her and her brother) through hell and added that today all of them are happy, which is more important. Both Priyadarshan and Lissy chose to stay single after that.

Ending their 23 years of marriage wasn’t easy and it got a bit messy. The couple has two sons. Later in 2013, Mukesh found love for the second time. He married ace dancer Methil Devika.

Urvashi - Manoj K Jayan

Urvashi and Manoj K Jayan too met each other on the sets. Both of them were at the peak of their careers and fell in love. They got married in 2000, however, eight years later they announced their separation. The divorce was nothing short of a blame game. From Manoj K Jayan accusing Urvashi of alcohol addiction to her throwing mud at him, the separation turned out ugly. The couple has a daughter. Manoj K Jayan later entered into wedlock in 2011 and Urvashi too found love the second time.

Kavya Madhavan - Nishal Chandra

Kavya Madhavan is one of the most loved actresses in Malayalam cinema. People loved her so much and were very keen about her life off-screen as well. Kavya Madhavan entered wedlock in 2009. The actress married Nishal Chandra and even relocated to Kuwait with him after marriage. The duo parted ways in a year. From Kavya accusing Nishal’s family of ill-treating her to him accusing her of having an affair with an actor, the divorce made headlines for ill reasons. Kavya Madhavan later married her co-star Dileep, with whom she was always rumoured to be linked. They have a daughter. Nishal too got remarried.

Manju Warrier-Dileep

Manju Warrier and Dileep were often considered to be one of the perfect couples in M-Town. The duo, who fell for each other during ‘Sallapam’ entered wedlock in 1998. The couple also has a daughter. The duo was married for 17 years, in between, there were constant rumours of Dileep linked to Kavya, but the couple always rubbished it. The duo kept the reason for separation private, however, their divorce made a lot of buzz, and fans were fighting with each other. They got officially divorced in 2015 and a year later, much to everyone’s surprise Dileep married Kavya Madhavan. The actor also clarified that Kavya had nothing to do with his divorce from Manju Warrier. Dileep also shared that his marriage with Manju Warrier was a ‘sudden decision’. The duo parted ways and are happy in their own lives.
